It is uncertain what the New York Yankees will do this summer.

New York has performed admirably this season, so purchasers will undoubtedly flock there. The Yankees have a few obvious needs, but it is unclear whether they will be able to meet all of them. New York needs assistance in the bullpen, starting rotation, first, second, and third base.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are unlikely to find an option at every position, although they have been linked to four-time Gold Glove Award winner Matt Chapman to help out at third base.

“San Francisco Giants, I would say they want to buy,” Heyman told reporters. “They spent the offseason with (Jung-hoo Lee) in center field, who is currently out, Chapman, and Blake Snell. They’ll wait and see when Snell returns. They’ve got (Robert Ray) and (Alex Cobb) returning. But, if they do sell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chapman is a target, either for the Yankees or someone else.”

Chapman was connected to the Yankees throughout the summer, but the two sides never reached an agreement. Landing him in a deal with the Giants would help enhance the third base position because he is a great defensive player who also slashes.245/.325/.426 with 12 homers and 42 RBI.

Landing Chapman would be a wonderful start, but the Yankees would need to make a decision quickly with the trade deadline just a few weeks away.
