This winter, the New York Yankees will need to repair many huge holes. Obviously, they must either re-sign Juan Soto (which is their preferred option) or find a method to replace him with another excellent outfielder. Aside from that, they have vacancies in the right side of the infield and on the pitching roster.

The Yankees released Anthony Rizzo this offseason and will attempt to add a much superior option at first base. There are very few great first basemen on the market, but New York will look to sign one of the best candidates. Nick Villano of FanSided recently predicted that Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker would join with the Bronx Bombers in free agency. Spotrac expects Walker will sign a three-year, $66 million contract in free agency, though he may be able to make more.

“The Yankees are uniquely positioned to sign Walker.” They have DJ LeMahieu, who is looking to make a comeback, and they are looking to replace a washed Anthony Rizzo. Walker would simply have to deliver on what he has done in the past,” Villano added. “With Aaron Judge in the lineup, along with whoever is added over the next few months, the Yankees can give Walker everything he’s looking for and more.”

Pros and Cons: Should Yankees sign Christian Walker? - Yahoo Sports

Walker is the Yankees’ ideal first-base target. He would be a wonderful fit for the Yankees’ infield and payroll. Walker would bring a multi-time Gold Glove winner at first base to a team with poor defense. However, stealing him from the Diamondbacks will be challenging. Walker is likely to be their first priority this winter.
