The Buffalo Bills are one of the last teams that people are paying attention to in terms of the 2024 NFL draft, but it’s still worth seeing who Buffalo might choose next year. With a 10-3 record, the Bills are more focused on the playoffs and the defensive adjustments that need to be made in the next months of December and January.
Whatever happens this season, Super Bowl or not, certain adjustments will occur again next offseason. The Bills’ cap situation may need some fan favorites to leave Buffalo in order to make room. In addition, has youthful talent that hasn’t worked out, and they could be leaving Buffalo soon.
Brandon Beane and his club must be on the lookout for players who will be available in the 20s of next year’s draft after making the playoffs this season. While there may not be any huge names coming to the Bills, that is where they can find actual value that the teams in front of them have neglected.
Bills find their replacement for Rasul Douglas in recent mock draft
In a recent mock draft, CBS Sports’ Mike Renner has the Bills at No. 29 and selecting Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron. With Douglas in his final year of his deal with the Bills, Barron may step in opposite Christian Benford and develop into a lockdown corner.
“Jahdae Barron has been lights out all season for the Longhorn’s vaunted defense. He’s got five picks and five pass-breakups on the outside this year after spending the past two years in the slot. Barron is NFL-ready and could take over free agent Rasul Douglas’ role.”
Barron gives versatility right now, as he can play both in the slot and outside. That sounds like a wonderful fit for a Sean McDermott/Bobby Babich defensive scheme. He would most certainly be chosen to start over someone like Kaiir Elam, who has failed to meet his first-round expectations since 2022.
While it makes sense for the Bills to try to re-sign Douglas on at least a one-year contract, they may not be able to pay it. If that’s the case, Buffalo will have no choice but to focus on the secondary. Benford has emerged as a sneaky lockdown corner, but the Bills will need to find someone to complement him.
