Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are 13-3 and currently have the second seed in the AFC. Allen will start against the New England Patriots on Sunday, despite the fact that the team has nothing to play for, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
“Bills HC Sean McDermott said Josh Allen will start Sunday’s game vs. the Patriots, though he’ll only play a limited amount of time to keep his consecutive start streak alive,” according to Meirov.
Allen has started 114 consecutive games, progressing from an unreliable youth to one of the greatest in the NFL throughout that time. However, the 28-year-old still has a long way to go before tying Brett Favre’s record of 297.
While Allen will play briefly, other starters will rest to prepare for the AFC Wild Card game, according to News 8 Rochester’s AJ Feldman.
Bills must finally defeat Chiefs in playoffs
Buffalo hasn’t missed a beat despite trading standout wideout Stefon Diggs in April, and this is the team’s fifth consecutive season leading the AFC East. However, the Bills must overcome their nemesis before they can be considered a Super Bowl contender.
That kryptonite is, of course, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. They’ve beaten Buffalo in the playoffs three times since 2020, each by one or two possessions. The Bills aren’t far behind, but they need to produce more clutch plays in crucial circumstances this time around.
Before they can face the Chiefs, they must first win the Wild Card and Divisional rounds. Kansas City has clinched the top spot at 15-1, so the Bills will not meet them until the AFC Championship, if both teams make it there. It’s one thing to be good during the regular season; what distinguishes the great players is who steps up when it counts the most. With his legacy on the line, Allen cannot afford to allow Mahomes beat him in January for the fourth time in a straight.
