When asked if he harbored animosity toward the management office of the New York Mets, star first baseman Pete Alonso was frank. After the first year, the four-time All-Star chose to accept a short-term contract with a player option since he was unable to come to an agreement with the team for a long-term extension. Alonso is having a fantastic start to 2025 in spite of the uncertainties. With nine home runs, 34 RBIs, and an OPS that is fourth in the MLB, the 30-year-old has a batting average of.320.

Alonso talked about his reasons for sticking with the Mets and his excitement for the future in a recent interview with Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

“To be honest, why would I be upset? In my case, this organization has supported me since I was a young person of 21. I was drafted by that team. They are the group that contacted me. I was not traded by them. That implies that they like me, I believe. This is a fantastic company with wonderful individuals and a fantastic culture. With the supporters, coaches, teammates, security personnel, clubhouse managers, and everyone else, I’ve developed a lot of wonderful ties here. It’s really unique.

That therefore had a significant role in my choice to return. Last year’s postseason was incredible, and I got to play with a winning squad. All of our commitment was visible to you. We had excellent momentum. I was unwilling to leave that. Therefore, playing for a successful corporation is my top priority. New York is the largest stage in the world.

The Mets had even higher hopes for 2025 after their incredible run to the NLCS the previous season. The team is anticipated to make it to its first World Series since 2015 after adding superstar right fielder Juan Soto. New York leads the NL East with a 25–15 record thus far. The Philadelphia Phillies, who are only two games behind and have championship-caliber hopes as well, are gradually regaining ground in this race.

All things considered, Alonso will be mostly depended upon to guide the Mets to yet another lengthy postseason run. Throughout the regular season and in October, New York has relied on the slugger on many occasions. As the Mets begin their gradual journey to a World Series, Alonso has to maintain that momentum.
