The rookie from Providence can help accelerate the pace and provide rim pressure off the bounce.

Dennis Gates’s stealthy strategy over the past two years is to blame if the transfer portal seems to be off to a slow start. The one constant, meanwhile, has been the tremors of chatter around Mizzou’s interest in Providence transfer wing.

Following a pledge from Tennessee transfer forward Jaylen Carey yesterday night, Jones became the second commitment the Tigers obtained through the transfer portal, according to an On3 story.

Jones is a former 4-star prospect from Sarasota, Florida, who attended Oak Ridge High School in Orlando. He averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game during his one and only college season at Providence. Jones is available after Providence sacked Kim English, a former Mizzou Tiger, as head coach after a 15–18 campaign.

With Trent Pierce returning, Jones becomes the most likely starter at either the wing or combo forward position. Additionally, his consistent scoring should enhance Jason Crowe Jr.’s scoring.
