Their bats are beginning to click as the New York Mets have dominated the opening quarter of the season. One of those guys who is starting to get into a rhythm is Brett Baty. He plays both second and third base, which is the main problem.
Carlos Mendoza cannot afford to bench Luisangel Acuña and Mark Vientos since they have been blazing at the plate. But Starling Marte is having trouble, and Jesse Winker is on the injured list. Mark Vientos may be the ideal DH to keep Baty’s bat in the order, as the DH position is completely available.
With Baty hitting the bat well, Vientos was recently questioned if he would feel more at ease in his role as DH. In response, he said, “Definitely.”
Vientos’ willingness to prioritize the team shouldn’t come as a surprise. In addition, he had a breakthrough season in 2024 and has been playing excellently offensively lately. The 25-year-old is hitting.311 with a.912 OPS and five home runs in his last 20 games. His maturity is demonstrated by his willingness to allow a younger player take his place.

Mendoza is dealing with a serious issue. The offense of the Mets has been booming lately. It will be hard to find at-bats for Baty, but it could be better for him to move Vientos to DH.
They will be forced to DH Vientos if Baty keeps hitting, as he has hit.289 with four home runs and a.978 OPS over his last 15 games.
With Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso at the top, everyone is well aware of how strong the Mets’ lineup is. The Mets will have a better lineup than many had anticipated if Baty keeps hitting. Mendoza would need to DH Vientos more frequently even if Winker was well.
New York has long recognized Baty’s talent, which he has now begun to demonstrate. His status as one of MLB’s top prospects was not long ago. He might help the Mets maintain their lead in the NL East by adding depth to their lineup.
