
The Los Angeles Angels ruined Clayton Kershaw’s season debut on Saturday night by defeating the Dodgers 11-9 to win the first two games of the three-game series, thanks to home runs from Logan O’Hoppe, Taylor Ward, and Mathew Lugo.
In the first inning, Kershaw fired 38 pitches and gave up three runs. After four innings, the three-time National League Cy Young Award winner allowed five runs on five hits while striking out two batters and walking three.
He only played in seven games last season due to injuries to his knee, toe, and shoulders, and his 2025 debut was delayed by many surgeries.
O’Hoppe had a career-high five RBIs on two singles.
Against his old team, Kenley Jansen recorded his sixth save with four outs, while Reid Detmers (1-2) let up a run in two innings.
The Dodgers’ Andy Pages and Enrique Hernandez both hit home runs, and Freddie Freeman recorded four hits, matching his season-high total.

Pages’ three-run homer in the first gave the Dodgers the lead at three. After Michael Conforto scored on a wild pitch and rookie Dalton Rushing doubled his RBI, they grabbed a 7-5 lead in the sixth inning.
In the seventh, the Angels scored five runs. O’Hoppe blasted a three-run homer to right field off Kirby Yates (3-2) after Nolan Schanuel had an RBI double to give the team a 9–7 lead. An RBI single was inserted by Kevin Newman.
Lugo’s home run in the ninth inning helped the Dodgers draw to 10-9.
