Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider will not be scared to keep adding to the team’s defense. He observed the team’s growth under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald last season, and there is no reason to redo the wheel. All of the team’s 2024 defensive standouts returned.

Schneider signed Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in free agency, but Seattle only selected two defensive players out of its 11 2025 draft picks. He fills a huge void rather than being the cherry on top of a magnificent cake. Lawrence’s restricted role should help him succeed.

And Schneider may not be finished. To find out if defensive end Jadeveon Clowney might be interested in coming back to Seattle, the Seahawks should get in touch with him. In 2019, he was a member of the team. Even though he didn’t have many sacks, his efficacy as a whole is demonstrated by his 12s. He is also quite good when he is not running.

Jadeveon Clowney says the words that should get Seahawks fans excited

The fact that Macdonald and Clowney previously collaborated and that the athlete had one of his greatest seasons under Macdonald gives Seattle an advantage. Clowney was a player for the Baltimore Ravens two seasons prior, when Macdonald was their defensive coordinator.

The edge rusher had 28 run items, 9.5 sacks, and played in all 17 games that season—a rare occurrence for Clowney. Because he wouldn’t be expected to play more than 60% of the snaps, Clowney, like Lawrence, would be productive with the Seahawks. In 2023, he spent 57% of them with the Ravens.

Despite being 32, Clowney isn’t ready to give up football just yet. After being cut by the Carolina Panthers this summer, the edge rusher recently told The Athletic that he was ready to assist any club that wanted him.

“I will definitely play well,” Clowney declared. On that, you can trust me. This past year, I played alongside a number of individuals who were injured. And I played really well for them in the end. It is what it is, then. I am able to participate in the game. I am able to play football. Thirty-one additional teams are present. All I can hope for is that another team will give me the chance to show myself once more. I think I’m capable of doing it.

In the past, Clowney has waited until the start of the regular season to sign a free agent contract. It’s possible he won’t sign until much later in training camp. He seems more interested in playing games than in putting in a lot of work.

However, the Seahawks are a better match for Clowney than other clubs because of the aforementioned. The head coach is aware of the player’s abilities, and he already knows what Macdonald wants. Clowney would quickly get used to playing defense for the Seahawks.

Additionally, his presence would keep veteran DeMarcus Lawrence and Uchenna Nwosu fresher, as well as youthful edge rushers Boye Mafe and Derick Hall. Seattle would have a strong pass rush. The Seahawks can easily afford Clowney since they still have over $30 million in cap space.
