In downtime during team shootarounds, fourth-year Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer has repeatedly demonstrated that he still enjoys the outside touch from his playing days as a Blue Devil, averaging 110 made threes as the senior leader at point guard for the 2009–10 national champions. At least as a spot-up shooter beyond the arc.

Justin Robinson, the third-year director of player development for Duke basketball and a 2016–20 Blue Devil forward, asked Scheyer questions from fans on social media in the most recent edition of The Brotherhood Podcast, which was published this week. In response to the question of whether he is now the best 3-point shooter in the building, Scheyer challenged Isaiah Evans, a projected starter and rising sophomore wing:

“Is that even a real question?” Scheyer told Robinson a joke. “You know, so it’s clear that it’s not your question.

“Look, Isaiah is the one person who would want to claim that I haven’t defeated him yet. But return. In a few months, we will repeat this. And the response will be different.

“Like, I’m gonna beat Isaiah — not just once, but several times by then.”

Isaiah Evans, a freshman on a Duke basketball team that finished with 35 wins the previous season, shot a team-high 41.6 percent from beyond the arc, accounting for more than five of his 6.8 points per game.
