Kerry Carpenter, the right fielder for the Detroit Tigers, has been dealing with hamstring problems since the previous season. On Monday, the organization made the decision to put him on the injured list. Carpenter can hardly run at times when the problem is playing up, and at other times it doesn’t seem like a big deal. But when Carpenter legged out a triple on Sunday night, it appeared to get worse. Trey Sweeney is returning to Detroit, and he is going on the injured list.

Jim Duquette said, “AJ Hinch just told us they are being conservative with Kerry Carpenter and putting him on the IL with his hammy issue and calling up Trey Sweeney again #tigers.”

It appears that Kerry Carpenter was finally beginning to emerge from a slump, so this is awful timing. Although June wasn’t his best month, he truly came into his own in the last week. Carpenter was 6-13 at the plate over the past seven days, recording three home runs and ten RBIs. It’s definitely not a slump. After this lost time, it won’t be simple to maintain Carpenter’s impressive appearance at the bat.

According to a Cody Stavehagen tweet on Sunday, Carpenter stated, “It feels similar to the last time I had a little issue with it.” “The personnel here has done an excellent job of getting me back in a timely manner. I believe we’re all rather hopeful about it, but we’ll see how it turns out.

Less than two weeks from now, after the All-Star break, Carpenter is probably not going to return to the starting lineup. On July 13, the Tigers take on the Seattle Mariners in their last game before the break.

Trey Sweeney will be the Tigers’ backup while Carpenter is gone. Sweeney, who has had a difficult season thus far, was recently sent down, but his stay in the minor leagues was brief since he is now returning to Detroit. Despite his great talent, Sweeney has committed far too many errors this season, both at the plate and in the field.

With the All-Star break approaching, the Tigers are in a wonderful position despite temporarily missing one of their top players. With a 53-32 record right now, Detroit leads the AL Central by a wide margin. The Cleveland Guardians, in second place, are 11.5 games behind the Tigers.

Detroit will play again on Wednesday when they take on the Washington Nationals in the first game of a trip series. Due to the bad weather expected for Tuesday, the two teams who were originally scheduled to play on Tuesday night will now play a doubleheader on Wednesday. On Thursday, the series finale will take place.
