After the great slugger decided to sign a $155 million, five-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles, Pete Alonso and his family are starting a new chapter.
Alonso, who became one of the biggest players in the sport over his final seven seasons with the New York Mets, is saying farewell to the team.
While writing a farewell letter to New York, Alonso’s wife, Haley Alonso, couldn’t help but think back. She attached a photo of the five-time All-Star from his 2019 Mets debut.
“This image. It captures everything about Pete as a baseball player. Haley posted on Instagram, “Those who have watched him over the years know that it’s unquestionable that his love for the game absolutely radiates off of him.”
“I hope that his legacy with New York reflects how much he loved this game, this team, and this city.”
She thanked the Big Apple for welcoming their family and becoming their home.
We spent six years living in Manhattan after falling in love with the city. The enthusiasm of the supporters won us over. Sometimes radiant, sometimes energetic 😉, but always sincere. We cherished this crew,” Haley continued.
With 264 home runs, the 31-year-old Alonso, who took home the Silver Slugger Award this season, leaves the Mets as the team’s all-time leader. In addition, he recorded 712 RBIs and 951 hits.
The cherished baseman expressed gratitude for the “tough love” he received in New York in his own parting message.
