According to several media sources on Saturday night, the Chicago Cubs, who were unable to sign free agent third baseman a year ago, have reached an agreement with the three-time All-Star on a five-year, $175 million deal.
The Boston Red Sox signed the former Houston Astros player to a three-year, $120 million contract with two opt-outs in 2025. In an attempt to get a lucrative, long-term contract, Bregman opted out of his contract after just one season and passed on his $40 million player options for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

Reports state that the Cubs offered a club-record $35 million annually, complete with a no-trade clause and no opt-outs. On March 30, Bregman will turn 32.
After the 2024 season, the Astros allegedly offered Bregman a six-year, $156 million contract to keep him in Houston, where he made his major league debut in 2016 after being taken second overall in the 2015 MLB Draft out of LSU.
In 114 games during his one and only season in Boston, Bregman batted.273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs. For the season, he had a.360 on-base percentage and a.462 slugging percentage. He had a solid start before missing time from May 24 to July 11 due to a quad injury.
Bregman has batted throughout his career, which includes his first nine seasons with the Astros.272 in 1,225 regular-season games with 209 home runs, 293 doubles, and 725 RBIs.
A 2024 American League Gold Glove winner at third base and an All-Star in 2018, 2019, and the most recent season, Bregman participated in four World Series with the Astros, winning two in 2017 and 2022.
