John Wall, a former Kentucky great and longtime NBA guard, is making a comeback to college basketball in an administrative capacity.
Wall will become the next president of basketball operations at Howard University, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Wall will be “hands-on” with roster management, NIL deals, income sharing, agent negotiations, and player mentoring, according to Charania.

Wall will collaborate with team general manager Daniel Marks and head coach Kenny Blakeney of Howard.
Howard just finished a 24-11 campaign that included a First Four victory against UMBC in the NCAA Tournament and a third MEAC Tournament title in four seasons.
Last year, the Bison tied a school record for wins in a single season. The program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament triumph came in Dayton.
In August 2025, Wall—a five-time All-Star—retired from the NBA. The Washington Wizards, who selected him first overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, were his team for the most of his 13-year NBA career. Wall was also a member of the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets. Additionally, he was an NBA studio analyst on Prime Video.
Wall played one season at Kentucky in college. He led the Wildcats to 35 victories, a regular-season SEC championship, an SEC Tournament title, and an Elite Eight appearance under head coach John Calipari.
