The Philadelphia Phillies have definitely made a remarkable turnaround after a terrible start to the season. With a 40-33 record and three wins in their previous four games, the Phillies are currently in second place in the National League East. Additionally, they currently occupy the National League’s second wild card slot.

The Phillies are positioning themselves to be buyers at the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline by putting things back on track. If they want to go on a serious run this autumn, they should try to take care of some roster needs before the deadline.

Adding another outstanding talent on their outfield is one of their biggest needs. They are now thought to be a great fit for one of baseball’s top trade candidates as a result.

Phillies Named Top Trade Fit for Twins Star Byron Buxton

Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan identified the best MLB trade candidates for this year’s trade deadline in a recent ESPN piece. Byron Buxton, a talented outfielder for the Minnesota Twins, was one of the guys named. It makes sense because the Twins are far from contenders and he has been the focus of trade speculations for some time.

Then, if the Twins make Buxton available for trade, McDaniel and Passan listed possible destinations for him. The first team on the list of possible suitors was the Phillies.

“If anything might persuade Buxton to change his mind, it’s the Twins’ timeframe. Minnesota is positioned to have another active deadline and go nearly full rebuild. If that occurs, his odds of relocating will be more similar to Skubal’s, and he will fetch a monstrous return thanks to Buxton’s many years of control and a fair deal, McDaniel and Passan wrote. “Phillies, Padres, Diamondbacks, Braves, Rays, Cardinals, Yankees, and Rangers are the best fits.”

It would make perfect sense for the Phillies to pursue Buxton this season given their need for another elite outfielder. For a Phillies team hoping to make some serious waves this season, he would provide them with another high-impact power hitter.

Buxton has already amassed an astounding 23 home runs, 36 RBIs, and a.275 batting average in 63 games with the Twins this season. This comes after the 12-year veteran’s 35 home runs and 83 RBIs in 126 games for the Twins last season set career highs. If the Phillies were to acquire him, his numbers would make him a significant acquisition.

The Phillies shouldn’t be scared to make a big play for Buxton as they want to be serious contenders. At the trade deadline, a team like the Phillies should be making a lot of effort to acquire a great like him. In addition to being a superb hitter, he would be a long-term acquisition for Philadelphia. This is due to the fact that he is in the fifth season of a $100 million, seven-year contract, which increases his allure.

If the Phillies decide to pursue Buxton before the trade deadline, it will be interesting to watch. The Phillies would make a significant move if they were to get him.
