A strong and talented starting rotation has been the foundation of the Philadelphia Phillies’ recent success, to the point where the team was able to safely let go of a great starter before to the start of this season.
The Phillies were sure that Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez, Jesus Luzardo, and company could continue without former All-Star lefty Ranger Suarez, so they were happy to let him sign with the Boston Red Sox. For many supporters, however, it was still a huge loss.
Paul Casella wrote for MLB.com, “Suarez had not only established himself as one of the top left-handed starters in the majors, but he was adored by the Philadelphia fan base for his unflappable demeanor and positive attitude.” “Suarez was a part of many significant moments for the team throughout it all, none more significant than recording the Phillies’ pennant-clinching out in the 2022 National League Championship Series.”
Now that he’s started a new chapter with the Red Sox, Suarez is once again in the public eye for both his performance and his possible return to his old home for a special event later this summer.
Suarez was recently asked if he would be eligible to return to Philadelphia, where he became a fan favorite, for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game.
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the pitcher stated, “Obviously, that’s something every player here would like, to be an All-Star.” “I believe that maintaining my health throughout the season and being able to contribute to the team’s victory are my top priorities. It goes without saying that Philadelphia would be thrilled to host the All-Star Game.
The remarks exhibit the same team-first philosophy that won Suarez over Phillies supporters during his time with the team. With a 2.93 ERA and 75 strikeouts in his first 14 appearances in Boston, Suarez is having a great debut and may soon return to Citizens Bank Park for a second career All-Star selection.
Former Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Sends Message On Poor Start For Boston Red Sox
Suarez also talked about his experience leaving Philadelphia to join one of baseball’s most illustrious teams, only to see both clubs fall short of expectations at the beginning of the season.
According to Cotillo, Suarez continued, “I paid attention to (the start of the Phillies’ season), but at the same time, you want to turn around the slow start we had.” “Even more with this legendary team that is accustomed to winning championships and competing to return to the playoffs.” We still have time to do that, in my opinion.
Suarez’s legacy in Philadelphia is still important even though he is now focused on Boston.
The prospect of Suarez returning to Citizens Bank Park as an All-Star is nonetheless interesting because those memories still hold a special place in the hearts of Phillies supporters.
