The Los Angeles Dodgers reunited with a former player in a deal with the New York Mets on Monday morning. The catcher previously helped the Dodgers capture the 2025 World Series title.
Per Just Baseball’s Aram Leighton, Los Angeles picked up Ben Rortvedt from the Mets, sending right-hander Chayce McDermott—who had recently been designated for assignment—in return.
At 28, he isn’t known for his bat, but he appeared in 18 regular-season games and four playoff contests with the Dodgers last year.
He’s recognized for his strong defense behind the plate and his ability to build chemistry with pitchers.
Across 633 career plate appearances, Rortvedt owns a .190/.279/.270 slash line with nine home runs and a .549 OPS.
Beyond his time with Los Angeles, he’s also played for the Minnesota Twins (2021), New York Yankees (2023), and Tampa Bay Rays (2024–25).
Rortvedt is expected to provide depth at catcher for the Dodgers, slotting in behind Dalton Rushing and Eliezer Alfonso.
Prior to the deal, the left-handed hitter had spent the entire season at Triple-A Syracuse in the Mets organization.
