Madrigal, who was highly regarded for his bat-to-ball abilities, inked a $6.41 million contract with the White Sox. His career was hindered by trades and injuries. He signed a $1.35 million contract with the Mets last year after being transferred to the Cubs in July 2021 and later released.

He was released after suffering a left shoulder injury during spring training in 2025, which cost him the entire season. Madrigal has 238 hits, 77 RBIs, four home runs, and 17 steals in 285 games over his MLB career, with a slash line of.274/.323/.344. Despite his diminutive 5-foot-7 stature, he is extremely difficult to strike out. His glove is strongest on the right side of the infield, although he can play second or third base.

Madrigal may contend for a major-league position or begin in Triple-A Salt Lake. As a contact-oriented utility player, he provides low-risk upside. A former top prospect now has the opportunity to resurrect his career in the rebuilding Angels clubhouse thanks to this transfer.

By spring training, the 28-year-old should be completely healthy and have an opportunity to make the Angels’ Opening Day roster.
