Kentucky basketball coach Mark Pope gave an update on two of his players’ injuries during his weekly radio program on Wednesday night.
Since January, the Cats have been missing both sophomore forward Jayden Quaintance and sophomore wing Kam Williams.
Since breaking his left foot during a home victory over Texas on January 21, Williams has missed 11 consecutive games for the United Kingdom. Due to knee problems resulting from an ACL tear he sustained in February 2025, Quaintance has missed 15 consecutive games. Since January 7, Quaintance has not performed for the United Kingdom.

Will Quaintance or Williams play in another game in 2025–2026? According to Pope, each player’s rehabilitation process is going well.
“Good news for both of those guys,” Pope remarked. According to Pope, Williams started running and had a successful skill workout on Wednesday.
Pope described Williams as “having minimal pain, hasn’t done anything full speed.” “But he’s improving.” Williams is averaging 6.9 points per game while shooting 34.8% on 3-pointers, 44.9% from the field, and 95.0% from the free-throw line. He is no longer using a walking boot and has been spotted shooting a basketball before recent games.
Quaintance “is also making some progress” from his persistent knee problems, according to Pope. Pope stated, “We think we have the swelling somewhat under control, and he actually did strength testing (Wednesday).” “Before he can play on the court, he has a much more rigorous ramp up.”
Quaintance has only played in four games for the UK, despite being Kentucky’s top acquisition from the transfer portal this past summer. Quaintance’s output declined in his following three games against Bellarmine, Alabama, and Missouri after packing the stat sheet in his Kentucky debut, a victory over St. John’s on December 20 in Atlanta.
In a number of social media posts this past weekend, Quaintance’s father discussed his son’s Kentucky career and hopes to play professional basketball. This offseason, Quaintance is anticipated to depart the UK to join the professional ranks. Although Quaintance’s draft stock has declined recently, he is still predicted to be selected in the first round of the 2026 NBA draft.
In addition to Williams and Quaintance’s prolonged injury absences, Kentucky has also been without junior guard Jaland Lowe since January. Due to a string of right shoulder problems that necessitated surgery, Lowe will miss the entire season. There isn’t much time to get Williams or Quaintance back on the court, despite Pope’s confidence.
There is only one regular season game remaining for the UK. That is on Saturday at Rupp Arena at 4 p.m. versus No. 5 Florida. In Nashville, Tennessee, the SEC Tournament begins on March 11. The NCAA Tournament Round of 64 games start on March 19. Kentucky is 10-7 in SEC games and 19-11 overall. The Cats’ road loss at Texas A&M on Tuesday night featured a first-half breakdown.
