Over the weekend, the Dominican Republic defeated the Netherlands by a mercy rule. Juan Soto’s walk-off home run, which increased the score to 12-3, finished the game. The Dominican Republic then won its second pool game when the WBC called the match. When a microphone was placed in front of Soto after the game and the dust had settled, the superstar responded candidly about his one and only season with the New York Yankees.

Wearing the patented home run jacket from the Dominican Republic, Soto was asked which teams he enjoyed playing for the most. His #1 pick was his current World Baseball Classic club. The Nationals were in second place after defeating the Houston Astros. The previous squad he traveled to the World Series with finished third.
“2019 and 2024, those were really fun teams I played with, but this has to be top of the top,” Soto said. “You have the whole family, the whole Dominican Republic cheering for you.”
700 Million Reasons to Get Over an Ex
Ironically, the Mets were not mentioned at all. They missed a playoff berth on the last day of the season, making it difficult. Nevertheless, they are the franchise that gave him one of the biggest contracts in American sports history.
Though it is amusing that it continues coming up, all the chatter about Soto being unhappy in Flushing and only being there for the money is probably just a talking point. Soto has already spent more time with the Mets than with the Bronx.
If Soto continues to produce at his current level, it probably won’t matter how he truly feels about the Mets. Fangraphs reports that he hit.263/.396/.525 with a 156 wRC+ and a 5.8 WAR in 2025 after a sluggish start. Soto also had a 30/30 season, swiping 38 bases and hitting 43 home runs. In 2023 and 2019, Soto stole up to 12, with 2019 being one of his favorite years.
Even though Soto might not miss the Mets, people in the Yankees organization might agree if you given them truth serum. Aaron Judge received his second MVP award in 2024. Soto was just behind him in the race. No one is Soto, but Cody Bellinger is a good substitute.
Soto enjoyed one of the most exciting seasons of his career. With a career-high 181 wRC+ and 8.3 WAR, he hit.288/.419/.569. Soto ultimately benefited more from teams having to choose between him and Judge. After that, he signed that enormous contract.
The Mets gave Soto more than 700 million reasons to move on from his one-year affair if he does miss the Yankees.
