In Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup between the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils and St. John’s, may a crucial player make a comeback? On Monday, head coach Jon Scheyer did not rule it out.

After suffering a fracture to his right foot during a victory over North Carolina on March 7, Duke point guard Caleb Foster was first declared out for the “foreseeable future.”

In an interview with CBS Sports on Monday, March 23, Scheyer stated that Foster has put in a lot of effort and that his prospects of making a comeback have improved.

Since then, the likelihood has increased due to Caleb’s work. Scheyer stated, “I believe there’s an outside chance, maybe for Friday.”

He’s attempting to accomplish the seemingly impossible and return as quickly as possible. Given who he is and how he has been working, I don’t think I can rule anything out this weekend,” Scheyer remarked.

On Friday, March 27, Duke will play St. John’s in the Sweet 16. Tipoff is set for 7:10 p.m. on WBTV.

Without two players, Foster and Patrick Ngongba II, the Blue Devils prevailed in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Freshman guard Cayden Boozer, who has started the last five games for Duke, fills in for Foster. Boozer has grown increasingly accustomed to the extra minutes. In Duke’s victory over Virginia in the ACC tournament final, Boozer played 40 minutes and scored 16 points.

Boozer has averaged 37.5 minutes, 14 points, and five assists per game in Duke’s two NCAA tournament contests.

With 17 turnovers, which was their second-highest of the season, Duke’s victory over TCU in the round of 32 was marred by turnovers.

This season, St. John’s had the most forced turnovers in the Big East. On Sunday, March 29, the victor will advance to the Elite Eight.
