With Maxim Logue’s departure, North Carolina’s Transfer Portal class has already suffered one setback, and to be honest, it cannot afford another. For Michael Malone and his new program, Matt Able’s probable rise through the NBA Draft process is therefore a potential nightmare.

In addition to entering the NBA Draft and receiving an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, the 6-foot-5 NC State transfer committed to the Tar Heels on April 21. Most people anticipate that Able will return to college and join the Tar Heels because he is predicted to be selected in the second round if he stays in the draft, but that is not a given.

Admissions Snag Threatens UNC's Maxim Logue

In a recent interview with No Ceilings, Able gave UNC supporters cause for concern on his potential to remain in the draft.

Wearing an NC State shirt, Able told No Ceilings, “The reason I’m out here training, putting all this work in, is because it’s been a dream since I was a kid to play in the NBA.”

“I fell in love with it for personal reasons, but my dad, who played both collegiate and professional sports, was a major factor in my interest in it. I believe that being successful and being able to support my family and loved ones is the main reason I want to play.

Matt Able, NC State, Shooting Guard

It might seem like a minor thing now. Able needs to use that equipment while he gets ready for the draft in Los Angeles because he recently completed his freshman year at NC State. Nevertheless, he knows what it’s like to move from NC State to UNC after a year in The Triangle.

A player is probably not wearing NC State stuff if they are committed to become a Tar Heel and are using the pre-draft process to acquire knowledge and experience. College allegiances are not a concern for a player who is solely focused on realizing their NBA ambition. It’s a little issue. It might not be anything. Alternatively, it might be a cause for concern.

UNC commit Matt Able may have just given fans something to worry about

Regarding Able’s reaction to No Ceilings, they are an NBA draft outlet, therefore they won’t inquire or consider the prospect of him going back to school. They don’t focus on that, thus his response didn’t reflect that. Once more, though, he sounded like someone who is fully committed to fulfilling an NBA ambition this summer.

Able’s future will ultimately depend on the input he gets from the NBA Draft Combine, which is held in Chicago from May 10–17. He was selected 42nd overall in ESPN’s most recent mock draft, and he will probably withdraw from the draft if that value persists until the May 27 deadline.
