When contrasted to the context of their past achievements, the football programs at Georgia and Auburn are both experiencing a bit of an identity crisis. long Georgia has quickly dropped from its championship heights in 2021 and 2022, Auburn has been around the bottom of the SEC for a long after consistently ranking near the top.
Naturally, recruitment plays a big role in maintaining brilliance in college football, but regrettably for Tigers and Bulldogs supporters, one of their respective schools’ top targets is taking his skills elsewhere.
According to 247Sports on X, previously Twitter, “CB Caden Harris (ranked as the 11th CB in Top247) has formally committed to Vandy.”
Harris hails from Haywood, Tennessee, and is a four-star cornerback.
Additionally, Harris “selected Vanderbilt over Georgia, Missouri, Notre Dame, and Auburn,” according to the newspaper.
A big shift in college football
The fact that more and more recruits are starting to take Vanderbilt seriously as a prospective destination is indication of how swiftly that team is starting to turn things around.
Naturally, Vanderbilt’s victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, which eventually prevented the Tide from making it to the college football playoffs, was perhaps the most unexpected of the 2024–25 season.
In the meanwhile, Georgia football is still looking for methods to return to the championship glories of 2021 and 2022. Although Georgia’s quarterback and defensive line output have declined dramatically over the past two seasons, head coach Kirby Smart frequently has some of the best lines in the league, raising questions about whether their window may be closing.

While Hugh Freeze has missed out on Harris, there is still hope that he can turn things around at Auburn, which hasn’t been a competitive school in a while. He is still assembling a number of high-profile prospects.
Anyway, August 30 is when the 2025 college football season is supposed to start.
