Major League Baseball could be in for significant changes at the managerial level this offseason, with several teams potentially making moves in the dugout.
There is still uncertainty surrounding a possible MLB lockout, although one is widely expected. If that happens, the free-agent market could become unusually complicated, but teams are still likely to have their managerial decisions settled by then.

Clubs that fail to reach the postseason could provide some of the earliest clues about which managers may be replaced. Several skippers are already facing pressure, and the Seattle Mariners are among the teams drawing attention after a disappointing season.
Dan Wilson hasn’t necessarily done a poor job as Seattle’s manager, but his performance hasn’t been strong enough to guarantee that he’ll remain in the position. As the Mariners potentially explore alternatives this offseason, former MLB infielder Miguel Cairo has emerged as one intriguing candidate.
Cairo brings plenty of experience to the table. The 17-year MLB veteran went 18-16 as the Chicago White Sox’s interim manager in 2022 while Tony La Russa was away, and he later managed the Washington Nationals on an interim basis, finishing 29-43 during a major organizational transition.
Cairo’s extensive playing career and coaching background could make him an appealing option for Seattle. Having spent nearly two decades in the majors, he understands the demands of the game and could bring a valuable perspective to the clubhouse.
However, the Mariners have plenty of issues to address beyond the manager’s office, and there is no guarantee that Cairo would be the perfect solution. Still, if Seattle decides to move on from Wilson, Cairo could become an interesting name to watch.
