When it comes to bolstering their outfield by the trade deadline this summer, the Philadelphia Phillies may be among the most desperate teams in Major League Baseball.

The Phillies obviously need to improve their outfield after losing Adolis Garcia. Specifically, they need to recruit a right-handed hitting outfielder. Any updates on the top trade targets will be crucial for the team because there aren’t many trade possibilities.

For this reason, Bob Nightengale of USA Today’s trade rumor about a top trade target—a Los Angeles Angels outfielder with 37 home runs—was unfortunate. Jo Adell doesn’t appear to be moving this summer.

“The Los Angeles Angels also plan to retain their key players at the deadline with owner Arte Moreno not wanting to unload starters Reid Detmers and Jose Soriano, or outfielder Jo Adell,” Nightengale reports.

Adell, a right-handed hitting outfielder with considerable home run potential and respectable defense, would be the perfect deadline target for the Phillies.

Despite not hitting 37 home runs this season—he has only hit 10 through 78 games in 2026—the 27-year-old, who is under club control through 2027, is nonetheless having a strong offensive campaign.

With an OPS of.691 and a hitting percentage of.252, Adell would be an immediate improvement over the Phillies’ current right-handed hitting outfielders.

With a.633 OPS this season, he may struggle against right-handers, but his.834 OPS versus left-handers is just what this Phillies offense sorely needs.

Although this Nightengale update suggests that Adell may not be available for trade, Adell would be a fantastic trade target.

The Phillies’ right-handed hitting outfield trade targets would be even more constrained if this rumor persists through the deadline, which would be very awful news.
