Southampton could make a move to sign Sunderland winger Jack Clarke during the summer transfer window.
Southampton are apparently looking to recruit Sunderland winger Jack Clarke ahead of the summer transfer window, and journalist Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that he believes the player will be interested.

Clarke is having an impressive season in the Championship with Sunderland, and he may be looking for a move when the transfer window opens. The former Tottenham Hotspur player will want to return to the Premier League soon, whether with Sunderland or another club.

It’s hardly surprising that a number of top-tier English clubs are already keeping an eye on the 23-year-old ahead of a possible move. During the winter window, it appeared like he might be leaving the Stadium of Light, but this did not happen. Sunderland may be busy this summer, with so many offers coming in.

Southampton one of the sides keen on Clarke

The Saints are reportedly considering making a bid of roughly £15 million for Clarke ahead of the summer transfer window, while West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Lazio are all interested in the 23-year-old player. Former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray labeled the clever winger as a’super talent’, and it appears that many Premier League clubs agree.

He is a player in high demand, with Burnley rejecting four bids during the previous summer transfer window. Given the number of top-tier English football clubs interested in Clarke, Southampton may believe that gaining promotion will give them a better chance of securing his signing.

Russell Martin’s team was unable to replace Nathan Tella, who left for Bayer Leverkusen late in the transfer window, and they have been devoid of senior players in that position all season. David Brooks was hired on a temporary basis in January to improve their options out wide, but the South Coast club requires a long-term solution.

With Clarke still only 23 and performing admirably in the Championship, he might be the answer, but Martin must ensure his club is promoted back to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity if he wants to lure this caliber of player.

Dean Jones – Clarke would be interested in the Saints

Sunderland: Frustrating Jack Clarke news emerges

Jones has suggested that Clarke is interested in a move to Southampton and would be a strong match under Martin. The journalist adds that Clarke will hear from players about how outstanding Martin is, given the Saints are flying high this season. Jones told GIVEMESPORT…

“Yeah, it feels like a good fit. I’m sure that he would be interested in a club of that size and with the sort of projection that they seem to have at the moment. Obviously, he will be aware of how good they’ve been across this season already. With Russell Martin’s reputation in the game growing all the time, you’ll be hearing from other players in the game just how he is improving the team, but also the individuals within it. So I think that that would be a situation that would interest Jack Clarke.”

Tottenham could re-sign Southampton star

According to reports, Tottenham should not rule themselves out of the fight to recruit Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters during the summer transfer window. Spurs are apparently considering bringing in a defender who can play on both flanks, a skill Walker-Peters has demonstrated throughout his career. The north London club apparently has a £30 million buy-back provision in his contract.
