Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli has stated that the Italian club will talk with Saints over Charly Alcaraz when the moment is right.

Alcaraz, 21, has joined the Old Lady on loan until the end of the season, with a £43 million buy option.

Some in Italy feel Juventus will be unable to afford the costly transfer option and will instead seek to negotiate lower terms.

In an interview with Sky Sports Italia, Juve director Giuntoli explained why the club chose to sign Alcaraz on loan rather than permanently.

He said, “Allow me to explain. We needed to bring in a lad who would not disrupt the squad, which we were extremely pleased with.

“He’s a young player with promising promise. The chance came 48 hours before the deadline, and we didn’t have time to negotiate the release clause.

“We have great respect for his club and at the right moment will sit down to discuss the options.”

Since his arrival, Alcaraz has made three substitute appearances, including one in the first half of their comeback victory over Frosinone on Sunday.

When asked why the young Argentine isn’t playing more, Giuntoli responded: “He just arrived, is very young, and lacks experience at this level.

“When you negotiate a loan fee, you want to protect yourself in case he is hurt. It was a ‘light’ economic move, and he has already appeared off the bench several times.

“We did not need a starter, but someone who could fill that slot with prospects for the future.”
