Amanda Stavely delivers a happy comment following Newcastle United’s double triumph.
Newcastle United director Amanda Staveley has expressed her delight at the club’s successful weekend, with victory for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Both clubs secured massive victory, signaling a return to normalcy for the Magpies following a difficult period for Eddie Howe’s side. They went first on Saturday in a massive battle for a European spot.

Their 3-0 win over Wolves brought them within four points of sixth-place Manchester United and secured their first home clean sheet in 2023. It puts Newcastle back in the hunt for a Europa League spot after being threatened by Gary O’Neil’s surging Wolves, an erratic Chelsea team, and further opposition from Brighton and West Ham.

Only six points separate the Hammers in seventh, one spot above Newcastle, and Chelsea in 11th (with a game in hand), making the three points even more important. Meanwhile, the women’s team improved their chances of winning the Women’s National League Northern Premier Division – the third tier of football – with a 4-1 victory over mid-table Stoke.

“It’s been a winning weekend for both of our fantastic teams!” Staveley posted on Instagram on Sunday night. “It’s great to have all of our fans out there supporting us as usual, and I’m glad we were able to win. Onwards and upwards [black and white heart emojis]!”

Staveley was just as pleased a week ago when Becky Langley’s side reached the FA Women’s National League Cup final. “What a team!” Congratulations to @newcastleunitedwomen on their triumph yesterday; we’re heading to the final!! [black and white heart emojis]” she commented at the time, accompanied by a photo of the team celebrating in the St James’ Park changing room.

The squad had performed in front of approximately 20,000 people on their path to the final. That was followed by Howe’s men winning their first home game since December 16.

It left the side to rejoice just as much in the locker room, reenacting scenes from the women’s team.
