Newcastle United and West Ham are poised to compete for the Championship’s top signing this summer.

Don Goodman believes Newcastle United and West Ham United may be interested in signing Leif Davis during the summer transfer season. The 24-year-old defender has recently been linked with moves to many prominent Premier League clubs, as he continues to shine for Ipswich in the Championship.

Davis, whose contract at Portman Road expires in 2025, has made 33 appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side this season and provided 17 assists from left-back. The former Leeds and Bournemouth star has played an important role in Ipswich’s promotion campaign thus far, attracting the attention of some big teams in the process.

Thanks to Davis’ performance, the Blues are now second in the Championship, just three points behind Leicester City. According to talkSPORT, both Newcastle and West Ham are keeping an eye on the Englishman.

The Magpies have many of options at left back, with Dan Burn, Lewis Hall, Matt Target, and Paul Dummett all capable of playing the position. Not to mention Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier, both of whom have temporarily played there in the past, so any move could imply a summer clear-out.

Nonetheless, speaking with King Casino Bonus and quoted by Football League World, Goodman believes it will be extremely difficult for Ipswich to maintain Davis with Newcastle sniffing around. The Sky Sports pundit stated, “Well, I think it would [turn Davis’ head], and it has to be [distracting] with respect to Ipswich.”

“Ipswich Town are a huge club in the Championship, but right now, if they were promoted to the Premier League, they would not be one of the big clubs.
