Vincent Kompany is still not ruling out Burnley achieving something “special” to top last season’s spectacular Championship title win.

The Clarets have had a dismal first season back in the top level, winning only three of their 28 games thus far.

With with 10 games remaining, the situation for Kompany’s side appears dismal.

However, with Everton and Nottingham Forest also facing point deductions, Burnley might have a fascinating season finale if they can find their form.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s match against Brentford, Kompany said: “I try not to look at the other teams, you know, but my life is like this. I look for any opportunity to accomplish something unique.

“This season can still be that, so why waste the opportunity? It’s ten games, and you never know.

“We had a terrific experience last year, and there’s no reason why the following ten games won’t give us the same sensation. That’s how we must handle it.”

When asked if survival would be a greater feat than what Burnley accomplished last season, Kompany said, “Yes, absolutely.

“Well, having stated that…For some reason, I looked at the squad planning for May 2022, and I had two players. Let it sink in, two players.

“We built from there to today; we have stories about why this player or that player does not play, but we started with two players. Everyone else was departing.

“We managed to re-sign Jack Cork, Johann Gudmundsson, and Jay Rodriguez, and that was it. There were a couple of people who were injured and their contracts were expiring, but we started from scratch with no parachute money.

“That’s a pretty decent achievement.”
