Charly Alcaraz, Southampton’s midfielder, has said he is still pinching himself after joining Juventus in January.

Tuttosport published comments from the teenager to the Instagram account Data Racing, which covers his previous club Racing Club in Argentina.

The 21-year-old is presently on loan at Juventus in Italy, having arrived from Southampton in one of the month’s surprise deals.

He’s had a meteoric ascent over the last year or two, joining Southampton for €13.65 million in the January transfer window of 2023.

Since then, he has established himself as a regular for the Saints, helping them avoid relegation last season and appearing in 23 Championship games this season.

That was cut short when Juventus signed him on loan at the end of the January transfer season, with the option to make it permanent.
Whether that happens remains to be seen, as the player has yet to make an impression and has been plagued by injuries thus far.

The Southampton player is determined to change that, while still pinching himself that he has ended up at a European powerhouse like Juventus at this stage of his career.

“When I think about where I am now it’s something incredible,” he went on to say.

Southampton: Charly Alcaraz future claim emerges after comments out of St Mary's

“When I moved to Juve, my former Racing teammates and the president contacted me, just as they did when I went to Southampton.

“I’m very happy to be here.” It’s one of those things that kids dream about: playing for one of Europe’s top teams. It’s amazing to be playing for Juventus at the age of 21.

“When I think about how I got here in such a short time, I question myself, ‘What am I doing here?’ It’s extremely nice. When I arrived, I felt nearly ashamed and insecure.

“Arriving at Juventus, with all the great players it has had and has been something that can put you in difficulty.”
