Anthony Gordon was eligible to play for Scotland, but his focus was always on representing England at the international level.

The Newcastle United winger has represented the Three Lions at several age groups. He’s shared the locker room with a number of extremely talented guys over the years.

One of them is Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

Gordon said that the Gunners’ number seven was his young teammate a few years back, and it’s fantastic that they’ve now had the opportunity to represent England at senior level.

The former Everton player also complimented Saka for his ‘fantastic’ progress since his youth team days.

He said, as reported by Hayters TV, “I played with Bukayo when I was really young – U17s-U18s – I can’t remember when, but Bukayo may be the only one from that team on this team right now.

“We also have other extremely good players who could join the squad in the future, but Bukayo is the only one. We were talking about it the other day, how far we’ve gone; it’s a huge accomplishment for both of us.

“He’s gone on to do fantastic things, and I’m just joining the group now. It’s really great to see that journey.”
