Arsenal-linked Alexander Isak was in great form for Newcastle this weekend, scoring twice in the 4-0 win over Tottenham.

Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon believes that his teammate Alexander Isak has the potential to be one of the world’s best footballers, as uncertainty about his future in the North East mounts.

Isak was in brilliant form against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Saturday, scoring two goals to take his season record above 20, despite suffering a couple groin problems throughout the campaign. On TNT Sports, Gordon showed his enthusiasm for the Swedish striker’s talent, saying, “It’s impossible to define [how brilliant Isak is].

“You see it on the pitch; you don’t need me to tell you. He’s incredibly gifted. If he stays fit, he has the potential to become one of the world’s finest players. He’s great to play with.”

Gordon also emphasized Isak’s involvement to his assist, which he believed had little to do with himself. He said, “You saw the assist I got for him; I just passed the ball to him, and he sat a few players down.” That was all him. “What a player!”

Isak’s strong performance will only add to speculation over his future at Newcastle, with Arsenal said to be interested in the former Real Sociedad player as they seek a prolific goalscorer. Kai Havertz has recently been used as a centre forward, while Gabriel Jesus’ form has dipped this season.

Newcastle, on the other hand, is in a strong position to keep its top player, as Isak’s contract runs until the summer of 2028. Isak was asked earlier this month if he wanted to stay with Eddie Howe, and he replied, “Yeah, of course I want to be here in the future.”

“I came here for the assignment, and I truly love playing here. I feel right at home. I want to finish the season on a positive note for both myself and the team. “I love playing here.”
