SAINTS manager Russell Martin said he has “no idea” why a report somewhere linked him to the Brighton manager’s position.

The 38-year-old Sussex native has been in charge of St Mary’s since joining from Swansea City last summer.

Saints are in a promotion chase and presently lie fourth in the Championship table, with only five games remaining.

Last week, an unsubstantiated source indicated that Martin is being considered as the probable next Brighton manager.

According to the report, the Seagulls spoke with Martin over the last international break, as Roberto De Zerbi was expected to leave.

When asked about the report, Martin replied, “Honestly, I have no idea.

“The head of media stated it to me the other day, and I have no idea. Obviously, I am from there, and the fashions are quite similar.

“It’s probably someone putting two and two together and making five,” he said.

“I’m in a job I’m very delighted with, and I want to get promoted to the Premier League. It’s actually that simple.”

Brighton have attempted to emulate Martin’s high-possession style during their stay in the Premier League.

While the Saints lead the Championship in possession, only Manchester City has kept more of the ball in the Premier League than Brighton this season.

Martin spent two seasons at his previous clubs, MK Dons and Swansea City, before moving on to his next role.
