Bryan King believes Everton will have to drop their asking price for Jarrad Branthwaite.

According to the former Everton scout, the Toffees will not receive anywhere near £80 million for the centre-back.

It comes after Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg revealed via X (16 April) that Branthwaite is a target for Manchester United, but the club is turned off by the £80 million asking price.

And King, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, believes the 22-year-old isn’t worth that type of money.

“I think his value probably decreased after that performance against Chelsea,” he remarked.

“I anticipate Everton to drop their asking price for Branthwaite. He is a skilled player who has time on his side. However, he performed poorly defensively against Chelsea.

“He didn’t look like an £80 million player. I believe that is £50 million too much.

“Everton are being ridiculous; Branthwaite has had one decent season, and they are asking for that much money? “It will never happen.”

The Toffees find themselves in an extremely hazardous situation.

Following another season in which off-field controversy dominated the headlines at Goodison Park, it is evident that cash must be raised this summer.

That might mean the club is obliged to trade Branthwaite, who has been one of Sean Dyche’s few standout players this season.

However, they may be forced to accept a lower offer, and due to the club’s current predicament, they are not in the best negotiation position.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche faces the possibility of being fired.
