Last season, Philadelphia Phillies starters had the second-best ERA in all of baseball at 3.53. One of their important players, is a free agent, nevertheless. Suárez had a 3.20 ERA the previous season and was named an All-Star in 2024. He was passed over for the All-Star Game but is currently among the top starting pitchers this winter. R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports, however, projected that Suárez would sign a contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks this summer.

Anderson commented, “Suárez may suffer in comparison to Valdez, but he’s a quality mid-rotation arm whose market figures to pick up once Valdez makes his decision.” Suárez has been linked to the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles at different times this winter. You may even persuade yourself to join the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, or New York Mets. The Diamondbacks, who have already entered the free-agent pitching market once this winter to sign Merrill Kelly, will be our choice for an off-the-board landing destination.
Alongside Corbin Burnes, Suarez, who has a 3.33 ERA since the beginning of 2024, might form a strong team. Suárez clearly satisfies the Diamondbacks’ need for additional pitching.
The Diamondbacks are apparently interested in the Alex Bregman market this winter and are attempting to return to baseball in October, two years after a World Series run.
Suárez will be a fantastic addition for a team in need, but the top of the free agent market is moving slowly. The Phillies should see their top prospect, Andrew Painter, make his debut next season and don’t need him because they have strong arms without him. Last season, Suárez also achieved career highs for strikeouts and innings pitched. He has a 1.48 ERA in 11 postseason games. In his only postseason start of the previous season, he pitched five innings and gave up just one run.
