The squad that the New York Mets will have going into the 2026 season will be considerably different from what we last saw. Francisco Lindor, a shortstop, is one of the important returning players, and he will probably have a significant impact on how successful the Mets are in the forthcoming season.
Even though the current season hasn’t even begun, Lindor is already struggling with injuries because he shattered his left hamate bone, which will keep him from representing Puerto Rico in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. But according to the guy himself, it appears that Lindor anticipates being prepared for Opening Day in New York.
Francisco Lindor Believes He’ll Be Ready for Opening Day — ‘One Hundred Percent’
Lindor has been a member of the Mets for the last five seasons, where he has established himself as one of the top performers of his generation. Lindor is a real five-tool player who does a little bit of everything for New York. Most significantly, though, he plays almost every game—he has missed only 15 games in the last four years.

Lindor hit.267 with 31 home runs, 86 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases during his first All-Star season with New York in 2025. However, with important players like Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo out of the lineup in 2026, things will be different for Lindor and the rest of the Mets.
Lindor will therefore have to bear a greater burden at the plate. He must, of course, be on the field in order to accomplish this, and his latest injury has made it more difficult for him to be prepared for the regular season to begin. However, Lindor seemed upbeat when talking about his chances of being prepared for Opening Day after hitting earlier this week.
“After hitting for the first time on Wednesday, Francisco Lindor, who is recuperating from a broken left hamate bone, told The Post he likes his Opening Day chances,” according to Jon Heyman. “We’re checking the boxes along the way, but I’m 100% sure I can make it for Opening Day.”
Will Francisco Lindor Be in the Mets’ Opening Day Lineup?
The Mets are probably going to be cautious about Lindor’s injury status given how early in the season it is. However, Lindor is one of the league’s most resilient players, and given his desire to play as much as possible, you can bet that he will be on the field with his teammates if he is given the go-ahead.
