After a terrible start to the season, Don Mattingly, the interim manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, has done a fantastic job of bringing the team back on track.
He is now dealing with his first significant challenge since assuming leadership. On June 10 against the Toronto Blue Jays, right fielder Adolis Garcia was hurt while attempting to throw out a runner at home plate on a sac fly.
Due to a shoulder injury, he was taken out of the game. Imaging indicated the Phillies’ worst-case scenario: Garcia would be placed on the injured list due to a torn lat.

Because of the severity of the injury, Philadelphia put him on the 60-day injured list, which may be how his time with the team ends. This is because, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, he signed a one-year contract this past offseason and is now anticipated to miss the entire season.
According to a recent article, Garcia’s injury is expected to keep him out of action for the rest of the season. Despite his difficulties at the plate, it is a devastating blow for the Phillies.
Garcia has seven home runs, eight doubles, and one triple, but his slash line is a disappointing.195/.270/.329. He was dropped from the batting order in May after a terrible 3-for-57 slump.
However, with Garcia in the lineup, Philadelphia could always rely on excellent defense. He had a significant impact throughout that portion of the game, which was crucial to the team’s eventual turnaround.
The Phillies will now need to look elsewhere to cover the right field vacancy. They started by trading Derek Hill to the Chicago White Sox for two prospects and money from the international pool.
Gabriel Rincones Jr. of Triple-A Lehigh Valley was likewise raised in Philadelphia. As one of the team’s finest prospects, he made his MLB debut on June 12 and will have an opportunity to secure the regular position in right field.
Another candidate who has been on the Phillies bench for the past few weeks is Steward Berroa, who is currently on the paternity list. Otto Kemp and Felix Reyes, who are also with Lehigh Valley, may be given opportunities to play in the Major Leagues, but they haven’t yet seized them.
