Notre Dame has demonstrated that it is prepared to travel anywhere in the nation to pursue the best prospects in the country, and most lately, that it is capable of winning such fights.

Therefore, it came as little surprise when the Irish made an offer to Jalen Brewster, a 2027 five-star defensive lineman, last week.

Several schools have extended offers to the standout student from Cedar Hill High School, including Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, and Oregon.

However, the Texas prospect could be a better match for the Irish than typical.

Brewster told Irish Sports Daily, “I was born and raised in Indianapolis.” “My hometown is there.”

When Brewster spoke with Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington over the phone last Monday, he was thrilled to receive the offer.

Brewster said, “He said I was the best at my position.”

“They need the program’s best players to show up.”

The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder had a favorable first impression of Washington.

About Washington, Brewster remarked, “He’s a cool dude.” “He is a genuine man.”

Now that he has the opportunity, Brewster is eager to keep in touch with Washington and the other Notre Dame employees.

Regarding the following step, Brewster stated, “building a relationship.” “Coming nearer to them and allowing them to approach my people.”

Brewster was raised in Indiana but has never visited South Bend.

“But I intend to do that this year,” he stated.

“I was going to take my family up there for a game visit because I know they are huge Notre Dame fans.”

Brewster wants to see it for himself, of course.

He stated that he would like to “see the coaches, their facility, and that environment.”

He has already traveled to Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana, Texas, and Oklahoma.

He plans to make a few more visits in the fall.

He stated, “I definitely want to attend that Ohio State-Texas game,” which is scheduled for Columbus on August 30. “And a game in Michigan.”

When it comes time for Brewster to choose a school, one factor will be more important than any others.

“The strength of the relationship with the coaches.”
