Reid Detmers, a left-handed pitcher, is undoubtedly one of the Los Angeles Angels’ many fascinating trade assets. There is a rather clear pattern that any parties hoping to acquire Detmers in a trade must adhere to. The Halos still have one of the worst farm systems in Major League Baseball, despite pundits giving the Angels high marks for the haul they acquired in the MLB Draft. They don’t have many young, talented hitters in the pipeline, so LA might be interested in any team that offers them.
According to reports, owner Arte Moreno was opposed to the team selling Detmers away, although that was before to John Mozeliak taking over as acting general manager when Perry Minasian was fired. Although we don’t know if Mozeliak has the go-ahead to trade Detmers, he has given the impression that he has a lot of freedom to act in the team’s best interests.
The majority of the Angels’ pitchers are ranked among the top ten prospects. The best position player is Nelson Rada, but he has very little power and is primarily a contact hitter. Although there is no assurance that Detmers will be traded—especially because the team still has control over him after this season—the Angels have a fantastic chance to start bringing in some young, talented hitters around the trade deadline.
