One day after being reportedly struck in the head by a line drive, right-hander George Klassen, one of the Los Angeles Angels’ best prospects, is getting well.
While pitching for the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas on Sunday, Klassen sustained an injury. In the fourth inning of a Southern League game against Montgomery, he was flat on his back on the mound when the liner seemed to strike him in the head.
Klassen’s manager and athletic trainer had to assist him in leaving the field. Klassen was still receiving more tests on Monday, but the team reported that he was conscious and aware and that his condition was getting better.
Prior to the Angels’ series opener against the San Diego Padres on Monday, manager Ron Washington stated that he had no updates.
Among the most promising talents in the Angels’ often underappreciated farm system is Klassen. Last summer, the Halos acquired the 23-year-old by trading closer Carlos Estévez to Philadelphia, who selected Klassen in the 2023 sixth round.
Klassen has struck out 36 batters in 29 innings while going 1-3 for Rocket City with a 4.97 ERA.
