The Phillies have quickly transitioned Peluse into a new role, hiring him as a pitching coach within their player-development system shortly after releasing him from his playing contract. While his time as a player has come to an end, he will remain with the organization and begin the next chapter of his career as a coach.
Colin Peluse’s playing career has officially come to an end, but he will remain part of the Philadelphia Phillies organization in a new capacity.
According to Phillies Nation’s Ty Daubert, Peluse, who spent the 2026 season pitching for Double-A Reading, was released from his minor league player contract and immediately hired as a pitching coach within Philadelphia’s player-development system.
The move gives the Phillies a chance to retain a pitcher with six years of professional experience while allowing Peluse to begin the next phase of his baseball career.
Philadelphia originally signed the right-hander to a minor league contract in November 2025 after he spent the first six seasons of his career in the Oakland Athletics organization. Although he never reached the majors with the Phillies, he will now have an opportunity to use his experience to help develop the organization’s young pitchers.
The coaching transition comes as Philadelphia continues working to strengthen its farm system after several seasons of trading away prospects in deals designed to improve the major league roster.

Peluse’s professional journey started with plenty of promise. Oakland selected the 6-foot-3 right-hander in the ninth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Wake Forest, and he established himself as a reliable option both as a starter and a reliever. However, despite spending several years in the Athletics’ system, he never reached the major leagues.
That experience could make Peluse a valuable addition to Philadelphia’s player-development staff. Having handled both starting and relief duties throughout his career, he brings firsthand knowledge of the challenges involved in trying to climb the professional ranks and reach MLB.
His move into coaching is also somewhat unusual for a player at this stage of his career. Rather than seeking another organization after being released, Peluse immediately embraced a coaching opportunity with the Phillies, the same team he joined as a player less than a year ago.
