Coventry will be without influential striker for their Premier League opener against Arsenal, with manager Frank Lampard confirming the forward will miss the match.
Wright played a crucial role in Coventry’s promotion campaign last season, finishing as the club’s leading scorer with 17 goals as the Sky Blues secured the Championship title and earned a return to the Premier League for the first time in 26 years.

Coventry face a difficult challenge in their opening fixture, travelling to take on the reigning Premier League champions. However, their hopes of causing an upset have been dealt a significant blow by Wright’s absence.
Lampard confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the 28-year-old forward will miss Coventry’s trip to the Emirates Stadium after suffering a serious quad injury.
The Coventry boss revealed that Wright could be sidelined for several weeks, with his recovery potentially taking as long as three months.
Lampard described the injury as a major setback for both Wright and the club, confirming that the striker will be unavailable against Arsenal and could remain out for up to 12 weeks.
With Wright ruled out for the Arsenal clash, Lampard may be forced to turn to either Taiwo Awoniyi or Sidiki Cherif for their Coventry debuts. The two forwards joined the Sky Blues this summer from Nottingham Forest and Fenerbahce respectively, with the club reportedly spending a combined fee of slightly less than £30 million on the pair.
Ellis Simms could also be handed the responsibility of leading Coventry’s attack in north London. The former Everton forward enjoyed a productive Championship campaign last season, scoring 13 goals, with only Wright finding the net more often for the Sky Blues.
There is some positive news for Lampard, though, as Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Rudoni have both recovered from their respective pre-season fitness concerns and are available for selection against Arsenal.
