Newcastle appear to be seeking for smart recruits to move them forward in the second half of the season with a few weeks left in the January transfer window.

The Magpies may have underperformed in 2023/24, but that doesn’t account for Eddie Howe’s extraordinary amount of injuries, as well as the additional effort that a Champions League campaign entails.

Though the team was well aware of their European trip, they may have underestimated the impact it would have on the squad.

Players are returning from injury, and Premier Injuries notes that, while Howe still has 10 players out, this is a better situation than it has been in a long time.

It also implies that the Newcastle management has to sign a player or two before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Unfortunately, they will be disappointed in their attempt to sign a striker signed by Howe while he was in charge of Bournemouth.

According to The Telegraph (subscription required), the Cherries are not interested in selling in-form striker Dominic Solanke during this transfer season.

According to WhoScored, Solanke has 12 goals and one assist this season and would have been a fantastic addition to the Magpies front line.

However, Howe will have to wait until the summer at the earliest to attempt again for the 26-year-old.
