Jones will stay in Kansas City until the 2028 season.
Chris Jones is not going anywhere. According to NFL Media, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star defender has agreed to a five-year contract worth roughly $160 million, including $95 million in fully guaranteed money. Jones’ agency announced on X that the contract puts him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.

Jones announced during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration parade that he would remain in Kansas City, his only NFL home since entering the league in 2016. His statements now sound prophetic, since he has signed to a contract that will keep him under contract until the 2028 season.

It’s difficult to argue against Jones becoming the highest-paid defensive lineman in league history. He’s presently competing with future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald for the top defensive lineman in the NFL.

Jones has been a Pro Bowler for the last five years and has been named All-Pro in each of the last two seasons. He recorded a career-high 15.5 sacks in 2022 and 10.5 sacks in 16 games in 2023. Jones’ career stats include 75.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two interceptions.

Jones’ presence in town greatly improves the Chiefs’ chances of becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Jones has also joined a growing number of famous players who have signed multiyear contracts in the days leading up to the opening of free agency, including fellow defensive lineman Justin Madubuike, Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans, and Texans tight end Dalton Schultz.

The Chiefs recently placed the franchise tag on cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who hopes to receive an agreement that will keep him in Kansas City for the next three to four years. The Chiefs are willing to make a trade if one is not struck before the draft, according to The Athletic.
