Matt Hennessy, the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive lineman, has a new home. According to PHLY’s Zach Berman, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed Hennessy to a new contract. Hennessy, 26, injured his leg during training camp and did not play for the Falcons in 2023.

Hennessy, a third-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft, started all 17 games in 2021 but only 11 in 2022. With the Falcons’ left guard troubles, Atlanta traded up to take Matthew Bergeron with the 38th choice in last year’s NFL draft. Bergeron played well and secured the left guard position going forward, eliminating the need to bring back Hennessy.

The Eagles are in need of offensive line help following Jason Kelce’s retirement last week. While Hennessy is not a certain successor, he has the ability to be one. Hennessy has experience playing both guard and center, and he could be in the running for the starting center position during the offseason.

The transfer also includes a return to Philadelphia, where Hennessy played college basketball. Perhaps returning to Philadelphia will rejuvenate Hennessy. Hennessy’s contract does not become official until the new league year begins tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET.
