The pitching depth of the Philadelphia Phillies has undergone several modifications.

According to the transactions record, Philadelphia dismissed seven-year MLB veteran from his minor-league contract.

After a difficult 2025 MLB season in which he pitched for four different teams, Cabrera signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies in December. The left-hander had struggled in Triple-A, going 1-2 with a 10.38 ERA in 15 games, including his most recent appearance in which he pitched 0.1 innings and gave up 8 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks.

After being released from the Phillies, Cabrera is anticipated to attract interest from abroad, according to international baseball reporter Edwin Hernandez.

In 40 games in 2025, Cabrera was 0-1 with a 6.54 ERA. Cabrera has a 4.24 ERA and a 17-15 record in 312 games over his MLB career.

Phillies Bring Back Lou Trivino

The Phillies signed another minor-league pitcher in addition to releasing Cabrera.

Lou Trivino, a seasoned right-hander, has signed a minor-league contract with Philadelphia.

Trivino re-signed a minor-league contract this offseason after joining the Phillies late last year. He triggered his clause to either be released or promoted to the MLB roster after going 3-0 with a 2.77 ERA in 10 relief appearances in Triple-A with the Phillies organization. The Phillies chose to dismiss him.

 

After that, the veteran joined the Baltimore Orioles, but he had trouble. Before being cut, Trivino made two bullpen appearances for the Baltimore, going 0-0 with an 18.00 ERA. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings against the Athletics after giving up 6 runs in 0.2 innings against the Yankees, but it was only one poor performance.

Trivino re-signed with the Phillies a few days after being released, giving the team additional pitching depth in Triple-A. In the near future, he might also be used as a bullpen option.
