Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes is one game away from avoiding a two-game ban.
Bruno Guimaraes has towed the line flawlessly in recent weeks and now only needs to complete one final 90-minute spell without a booking to escape a two-game suspension for Newcastle United. Despite receiving his tenth yellow card of the season in a mid-January defeat to Manchester City, the Brazilian has made it this far.

Many people thought Guimaraes wouldn’t be able to play with such restraint for nine games, but to his credit, he has improved his game in recent weeks to guide Newcastle through a difficult moment with a depleted roster.

Guimaraes has made light of his sentence, claiming he was eager to get into the away end at the City Ground after scoring for Newcastle in their February victory against Nottingham Forest. The midfielder had the same expression in his eye when he rejoiced in front of thousands of travelling fans at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

So, how did Bruno come to this stage? Eddie Howe’s smart advice behind the scenes could have contributed to the outcome.
“It’s difficult because, when I play for this club, I give everything,” he told Premier League Productions over the weekend. “I am aggressive, so it is difficult not to receive yellow cards. I enjoy playing football with enthusiasm, and I can be a touch too strong at times.

“I chatted with the manager, who advised me to play smarter. I’ve been doing it, and there’s only one more game to avoid.”

Guimaraes made his 100th club appearance in Saturday’s triumph in west London, telling supporters that he aspires for’many more’ in black  and white given speculation surrounding his future.
