After beating Navy the week before, the Notre Dame football team trounced Florida State 52-3 on Saturday. Even before the Navy game, the program had a streak of fantastic wins, including a victory over Georgia Tech, lead by Notre Dame football quarterback Riley Leonard, who led the charge while head coach Marcus Freeman expressed his gratitude to the team.
Notre Dame football’s Marcus Freeman on how proud he is
Dominant may be underestimating how good the Fighting Irish played against the Seminoles on both sides of the ball, as the offense appeared unstoppable and the defense only surrendered a field goal in the first quarter. According to ESPN, Freeman would declare after the game that he is “proud” of his team and how hard they prepared before the game and during the season.
“Man, (I’m) proud of those guys,” Freeman added. “I’m proud of how they prepared. When you watch film, you know you’re up against a talented squad, but it would have been easy to dismiss those guys in terms of preparation due to their record.
“But we’ve got a mature group,” Freeman explained. “We have a group of seniors who are continuing to lead this group in the proper direction, and I honestly feel that Saturday is a reflection of preparation, and they are preparing correctly. They have the appropriate mindset, and they’re playing incredibly well.”
Florida State continues with a disastrous season
On the contrary, the Florida State football team has struggled against their opponents, with only one win on the season, coming against the University of California on September 21. Following the thumping by the Fighting Irish, head coach Mike Norvell expressed his disgust.
“We’re all disappointed,” Norvell explained. “This is not the outcome we expected. This is not how we envision our program. Guys fought throughout. Credit to the opponent for what they were able to accomplish. It’s a season full with results that make us sick, but we still have a choice in how we finish – which is to work and improve.”
Notre Dame football’s defense was overpowering the Seminoles
While the Notre Dame football team scored 52 points, the defense was outstanding, particularly the defensive line, which recorded eight sacks. According to Rivals, Fighting Irish defensive back Jordan Clark would discuss how his team’s defensive line makes things simpler for the secondary.
“It was really the D-line,” Clark explained. “Honestly, we’d like to take credit for it, but when you got guys pass rushing like Rylie Mills was pass rushing tonight and the rest of those guys, it makes it really easy for us.”
“I didn’t have to work too long or too hard tonight,” Clark told me. “Full credit to those men. They work their tails off. [Defensive line] Coach [Al Washington] does an excellent job of having guys ready and focused. You witnessed it tonight. “You’ve seen that all year.”
As a result, the Notre Dame football team (8-1) hopes to strengthen its position as they continue their seven-game winning streak into next Saturday.
