Apart from re-signing Michael King, the San Diego Padres haven’t done much this offseason, but if they want to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers, they must do more. They must, however, function in accordance with their financial limitations.

Zachary Rotman of Fansided suggests the Padres trade for Chicago White Sox All-Star because he thinks a trade can address their issues. Robert Luis Jr.

The trade would look like this:

Padres get: OF Luis Robert Jr., Cash Considerations

White Sox get: LHP Kash Mayfield (SD No. 4 Prospect), OF Tirso Ornelas (SD No. 11 Prospect)

If Padres are desperate for offense, why is Tirso Ornelas in minors? - East Village Times

“Parting with one of the organization’s top prospects for what could be one year of a remarkably inconsistent and injury-prone outfielder is risky, but the Padres won’t catch the Dodgers without taking risks. Robert has superstar upside, and getting him with his contract paid down some will not come super cheap. This deal makes sense for both sides,” Rotman wrote.

Robert slashed during the previous season.223/.297/.364/.661 in 110 games played, including 12 doubles, 14 home runs, and 53 RBI. Robert, however, was a contender for MVP and an All-Star when the White Sox were competitive. If you move him to a different contender, his stats might improve.

He would also be inexpensive, as Rotman said. His six-year, $50 million contract might be a good deal for the Padres, who are cost-conscious. They would also receive some hypothetical financial considerations.

I hope the Padres take a quick look at this transaction since other teams might think Robert is a wonderful deal as well.
